Deep down, you know you are capable of anything. You may have a picture in the back of your mind: a picture of yourself making your dreams a reality and achieving anything you put your willpower toward.


Now all you need to do is take the steps toward becoming your best self. To do that, be giving, don’t expect things from others, treat others with kindness, believe in yourself, write your goals down and work toward achieving them.

1. Adopt a “Give-First” Mentality

Instead of focusing on what people can give you, or what they owe you, focus on what you can give them. By adopting this mentality, you can ward off negativity and start creating value for others.


A “give-first” mentality can lead to valuable personal connections, business ventures and other great opportunities in life. When you shift your perspective, you will begin to see positive changes in your life.


Each and every day, look for ways to help others, even if it's just by giving a compliment or helpful advice. Consider volunteering or donating to a charity in order to give back to the community.

2. Don’t Expect Anything in Return

When you remove expectations from your life, it allows you to focus your energy on bigger and better things. Here are several benefits of not having expectations:

  • You take sole responsibility for your actions.

  • You separate your wants from your shoulds.

  • You avoid disappointment.

  • You live in the present.


Disappointment, irritation, anger or sadness most often arise because others didn’t respond to us in the way we thought they should. So, if you’re inclined to experiment with this type of thinking, start slow and go slow. It will take time to rewire your thinking.

3. Treat Those Around You With Kindness

Treat everyone around you with the same kindness that you’d like to receive. One of the greatest gifts we can give someone else is kindness. If someone is in need, lend a helping hand. Don't do it only for the people you like and respect, but also for the people you don’t even know. People who you’ve not gotten along with in the past. People who need it the most. True kindness lies in the act of giving without the expectation of getting something in return.

4. Believe in Yourself First

You have to believe in yourself first before anyone else does. Too many times, people will make us believe that we don’t have what it takes to succeed in this world. Don’t let naysayers make you feel inadequate or insecure about what you’re capable of accomplishing. You have everything you need in order to fulfill your dreams and goals. You just have to believe it.


Make the commitment to choose to believe in yourself, even if it feels like no one else will. Make the choice to be your own biggest fan, even when it seems that everyone else is not. You don’t need validation from others to prove your worth. Instead, you can focus on proving it to yourself! Be assured in knowing you really do have to ability to accomplish anything that you put your mind to.

5. Write Your Goals Down and Work Toward Reaching Them

Write your goals down in a journal and look at them every single day. Break down all of your large goals into several smaller goals. This will help you improve your chances of success because it allows you to see your progress and remain motivated, even when you don’t feel motivated.


If you ever feel uninspired, go back and look at your goals and see how far you’ve come. Sometimes, it can feel like you’ve made no progress at all when really, you’ve accomplished so much.
