Brad S. Elliott is our founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. He also serves as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Equity Bank. Before founding the Company, Mr. Elliott served as Director of Marketing at Koch Industries, Inc., a privately-held multinational corporation. Prior to joining Koch Industries, Inc., he served as a Regional President at Sunflower Bank, a community bank with locations throughout Kansas, Colorado and Missouri. Prior to joining Sunflower Bank, Mr. Elliott was employed in various capacities by Home State Bank and Trust for six years following graduation from McPherson College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Management. Mr. Elliott is also a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking. He has served on the board of directors for the Wichita Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Wichita State University Shocker Athletic Scholarship Organization, PCS Advisory Board, Via Christi Health, and the Kansas Bankers Association. Mr. Elliott adds financial services experience, especially lending and asset liability management to the board of directors, as well as a deep understanding of the Company’s business and operations. Mr. Elliott also brings risk and operations management and strategic planning expertise to the board of directors, skills that are important as we continue to implement our business strategy and acquire and integrate growth opportunities.
EVP, Chief Financial Officer, Equity Bancshares/Equity Bank
Gregory H. Kossover has served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and as Executive Vice President of Equity Bank since October 2013. He has served as a member of our board of directors since December 2011. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Kossover served as President of Physicians Development Group, a builder and manager of senior living facilities in the Wichita, Kansas metropolitan area, from 2012 to 2013. From 2004 to 2011 he served as Chief Executive Officer of Value Place, LLC, one of the largest economy extended stay lodging franchises in the United States. Mr. Kossover previously served as Treasurer of Western Financial Corporation, a publicly-held thrift holding company. Mr. Kossover graduated from Emporia State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and has successfully completed the Uniform Certified Public Accountants exam. Mr. Kossover’s leadership and financial experience provide important oversight of our financial reporting and enterprise and operational risk management to the board of directors.
President, Equity Bank
Wendell Bontrager joined Equity Bank as President in February 2017. Mr. Bontrager served as Executive Vice President for Tower Bank & Trust Company (“Tower”), headquartered in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was employed from March 1999 through Tower’s merger into Old National Bancorp on April 25, 2014. Bontrager served as Chief Lending Officer beginning in 2008, and chair of the Board’s Loan & Investment Committee. He oversaw Tower’s transition from Tower Bank to Old National Bank in 2014, and led Old National’s northeast sales efforts following the combination. Bontrager began his banking career in Fort Wayne in 1992 and is an alumnus of Goshen College (Goshen, Ind.). He has been active in the northeast Indiana and Fort Wayne communities throughout his career, including board memberships with the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnerships and Dupont Hospital and is a Future 40 Award Recipient of 2006, awarded by the Fort Wayne Business Journal.
EVP, Chief Operating Officer
Craig Anderson joined Equity Bancshares, Inc. in 2018. Previously, Mr. Anderson served as President, Commercial Banking – Eastern Region for UMB beginning in 2017, overseeing commercial banking divisions in Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Illinois. Anderson managed national specialty lending businesses and developed products and strategies for specialty agribusiness, health care and aviation lines. Prior to this, he served as President, Commercial Banking beginning in 2011 in Kansas City, Missouri and President, Regional Banking in Denver, Colorado. Mr. Anderson also served as Chairman and CEO of UMB National Bank of America in Salina, Kansas from 2001 through 2009, operating out of Wichita. Anderson is an alumnus of the University of Colorado – Graduate School of Banking in Boulder, Colorado and a graduate of Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. He has been involved in numerous community involvement efforts, including the Greater Kansas City and Mile High United Way chapters, service on the executive committee of YPO Gold, and has served as a board member and held key leadership positions with Music Theater of Wichita, Junior Achievement of Wichita, and Arts Partners of Wichita.
EVP, Chief Credit Officer
Craig Mayo joined Equity Bancshares, Inc. in March 2018. Mr. Mayo served as Executive Vice President and Chief Credit Officer for Investors beginning in 2014, overseeing the bank’s overall credit quality and played a key role in helping the bank grow from two branches and $757 million of assets in 2013 to four branches and $1.4 billion of assets in 2017. Prior to joining Investors in 2011, Mr. Mayo served as a Vice President and Special Loans Officer with Citizens Bank in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Mayo has spent more than 30 years in the financial industry, including roles in mortgage origination and commercial lending as well as credit analyst, loan review officer, and special assets. Mr. Mayo began his banking career with Northfield Savings Bank in 1984. Mr. Mayo graduated from the Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking in 2016, and the Agricultural Lending School at the School of Banking in Topeka, Kansas, and he is an alumnus of Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont.
EVP, Strategic Initiatives
Julie A. Huber serves as Executive Vice President and Strategic Initiatives of Equity Bank. Ms. Huber joined Equity Bank in 2003 and has served in a variety of leadership roles for Equity Bank over period of twelve years, including overseeing our operations, human resources, compliance functions and sales and training, and has managed the integration process for each community bank we have acquired. Ms. Huber served as President of Signature Bank for three years following our acquisition of Signature Bank 2009. Prior to joining the Company, Ms. Huber most recently served as the executive of Sunflower Bank responsible for the retail, operational, compliance and security functions. Ms. Huber graduated from McPherson College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and History, received her MBA from Baker University in 2014 and is a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking and the Bank Leaders of Kansas. Ms. Huber currently serves as President of the Andover Advantage Foundation in Andover, Kansas and is a Business Plan Advisor with Youth Entrepreneurs.
EVP, Chief Information Officer
John Blakeney join Equity after nearly five years in an executive role as Chief Operations Officer for CoreFirst Bank & Trust in Topeka, Kansas. Mr. Blakeney developed several key treasury management, cash and deposit operations, and electronic processes for CoreFirst, and led software engineering and information security processes throughout his tenure at CoreFirst. Mr. Blakeney served as Chief Information Officer for Commerce Bank of Kansas City from 2004 through 2010 and Group Vice President for Summit Service Corporation from 1997 through 1999 before Summit’s merger into Wells Fargo. He also has served as an information technology consultant and outside the banking industry, worked as Chief Information Officer for a directory assistance and technology company in Pennsylvania. Mr. Blakeney has an M.B.A. from Wharton Graduate School at the University of Pennsylvania, and earned his B.S. from Kean University in Union, N.J.
EVP, Chief Risk Officer
Rolando Mayans rejoined Equity Bank for a second term in 2013 after he previously worked as Chief Credit Officer of Equity Bank from 2005-2009. Mayans served as Senior Lending Officer for First National Bank of Hutchinson following his tenure as Chief Credit Officer for Equity Bank.
President, Community Markets
Harbert joined Equity Bank in August of 2003. Patrick holds a BA in Business with a minor in finance from Friends University. Before joining Equity Bank, Patrick was the Dodge City Market President for Sunflower Bank from June 1998 to August 2003. Prior experience also includes Branch Management roles with Commercial Federal Bank, Bank of America, and Emprise Bank. Patrick was an honoree of the Wichita business Journal "40 under 40" in 2007. He is currently a member of the Bank Leaders of Kansas (BLOK), sponsored by the KBA.
Chief Services Officer
Executive Vice President Jennifer Johnson joined Equity Bank in January 2012 after serving as the EVP/COO/CIO for Sunflower Bank in Salina, Kansas for 27 years. At Sunflower Bank, she helped the organization grow from an asset base of $100 million in one community to a $1.7 billion regional bank with markets throughout Kansas, Missouri, and Colorado. Jennifer earned a bachelor's degree in business from Benedictine College and an MBA from Kansas Wesleyan. Jennifer was honored as the 2007 Women of Achievement in Business and Industry and Kansas State University Alumni Fellow for the College of Technology.
After graduating from Bowling Green University in Ohio, Beth Money spent nine years in retail banking in the Columbus, Ohio area for US Bank. She joined Equity Bank after serving as VP, District Manager for US Bank in Kansas City, overseeing 16 US Bank locations in the KC metro area, and over 150 FTE. She held this position for almost 10 years, and was involved in the successful integration of branches and personnel from Mercantile Bank, then Firstar and then US Bank.
SVP, Director of Marketing
John J. Hanley is SVP, Director of Marketing, Director of Investor Relations for Equity Bank. Hanley joined Equity Bank in 2012, and oversees all marketing, advertising, communication, brand management, and product development strategy as well as public relations and investor relations for the company. Hanley has more than 12 years of banking experience, serving as marketing manager for Kansas-based Sunflower Bank from 2004 through 2011, and one year as product manager for the AAFP in Leawood, Kansas. Hanley earned his Certified Financial Marketing Professional designation in 2014. He began his career as a writer and editor with The News-Times in Danbury, Connecticut. Hanley is a graduate of Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, and attended the University of Iowa College of Law.
SVP, President of Wichita
Jeremy Machain is SVP, Market President of Wichita and oversees commercial relationship development and commercial lending for Equity Bank’s Wichita market. Mr. Machain joined Equity Bank in 2009 as a commercial credit analyst and was promoted to Vice President and Commercial Loan Officer at Equity Bank in 2012.
SVP, President of Kansas City
Mark Parman is Senior Vice President and Market President of Kansas City. Parman joined Equity Bank as VP of Special Assets in 2012 and became market president of Kansas City in 2014. Parman also served as EVP for First Community Bank, CEO of Hillcrest Bank and then Solutions Bank in Kansas prior to joining First Community.
SVP, Human Resources Director
Patrick Salmans joined Equity Bank in July 2012 as Senior Vice President/ Human Resources Director. He graduated from McPherson College in 1990 with a B.S. degree in Business Administration and is also a certified Senior Human Resources Professional through the Human Resources Certification Institute. Prior to Equity Bank, Patrick worked at Sunflower Bank in Salina between 1993 and 1997, and served as SVP between 2002 and 2012. Patrick also worked for ABX Air, Inc (dba Airborne Express) as a Senior Employee Relations Manager from 1997 to 2002. In 2006 he was selected as the Salina-area HR Professional of the Year and a State of Kansas honoree. Patrick previously served on the Board of Directors for the United Way in Salina, and currently serves on the state council for the Society of Human Resource Management for the State of Kansas.
