Wichita’s First ‘Enterprise Awards’ Recognizes Startups, Serial Entrepreneurs & ‘Intrapreneurs’

Entrepreneurship is a hot topic in Wichita, as the community focuses even more on building a faster growing and more diversified economy. When the Wichita Business Journal decided to create an event to recognize entrepreneurship in Wichita, they approached Equity Bank to help create the event and serve as title sponsor.

Wichita Business Journal readers were invited to nominate Wichita-based companies in several categories for their risk-taking spirit, their innovation and their ability to make their organizations and communities better. The categories were: entrepreneur, serial entrepreneur, intrapreneur, startup and franchise. The intrapreneur category recognizes someone who uses their entrepreneurial spirit to advance their organization, even though they don't have financial ownership.

The Enterprise Awards event was held Oct. 11 at the Hyatt Hotel in downtown Wichita. Organizations honored at the event were Wichita Festivals Inc., Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, High Touch Technologies, Metro Courier, ICI Insurance, Latitude Freight/Party Express, Profit Builders, Occidental Management, Justin McClure Creative, e2e Accelerator, DARI/Scientific Analytics, Thunderbird Firearms Academy, RSM Marketing Services, Fireshark Gaming, Kansas Filtration, Balanced Comp, Mode Wichita and ‘intrapreneurs’ from Wichita Area Technical College, Via Christi Health and Allen, Gibbs & Houlik.

Equity Bank opened the evening with a video message from the Wichita commercial lending team including Jeremy Machain, David King and Andrew Chaney. Machain also participated in the event by handing out recognition plaques to the honorees as they were announced by Wichita Business Journal Editor, Bill Roy.

The event was attended by more than 200 and planning has already begun on a second event in 2017.
