Equity Bank Adds Key Members to Teams in Wichita and Kansas City
Equity Bank announces the hire of several key team members in its headquarters of Wichita and its Kansas City Market.
Senior Vice President, Loan Operations Manager, Wichita
Nixon joined Equity Bank in October as manager of the bank’s loan operations department. She will oversee centralized loan operations in Wichita for the bank’s 34 locations in Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas. Nixon previously spent 24 years with Intrust Bank, including 19 years managing commercial, consumer, and mortgage loan operations before serving as market manager for the bank’s Oklahoma and East Wichita regions. She is a native of Wichita with a B.S. from Heritage Baptist University and is involved locally with Habitat for Humanity, Convoy of Hope, and the United Way.
Commercial Loan Officer, West Wichita
Blake Yakel joined Equity Bank in August as a commercial loan officer, based in the bank’s west Wichita location at Maize and Central. Yakel has nearly 10 years in commercial banking, beginning in 2007 as a commercial credit analyst and most recently from 2013 to 2016 as small business lending associate with Intrust Bank. Yakel is a native of Wichita and graduate of Wichita State, recently earning his M.B.A. from Fort Hays State University, with an emphasis in finance.
Assistant Vice President, Human Resources Manager, Wichita
Springer joined Equity Bank in October as manager of the bank’s human resources team, which includes support to more than 300 employees throughout the bank’s three-state footprint. Springer holds a BBA in Human Resources and an MBA in strategic change management from Friends University in Wichita. She previously worked in human resources with Star Lumber and Supply, and spent more than 10 years in property management locally in Wichita. She served as the Wichita chapter secretary for the Society of Human Resources Management in 2015.
Treasury Management Sales, Wichita
Casey Compton joined Equity Bank in August specializing in business development and treasury management sales based at the bank’s headquarters at Kellogg and Rock. Compton also work with business customers on bill payment, receivables, payables, and merchant processing solutions, among others. Compton spent more than 15 years in the commercial construction industry locally in Wichita, including one year as president for a local company in the concrete industry. Compton is a native of Andover and graduate of the University of Kansas.
Vice President, Commercial Loan Officer, Overland Park
Tom Oltjen joined Equity Bank as Vice President and Commercial Loan Officer in November based at Equity Bank’s main Kansas City office at Roe and I-435 in Overland Park.
Oltjen has worked in the Kansas City banking market for more than 30 years, most recently as a VP with Bank of America. Oltjen also previously served as President and Chief Lending Officer of the Bank of Prairie Village from 2007 until 2013, and an executive vice president at BPV from 2003 until 2007. He also worked in the Kansas City real estate market and is a licensed residential agent in Kansas and Missouri.
A native of Hiawatha, Kansas, Oltjen is a graduate of Rockhurst College and the Graduate School of Banking in Madison, Wisconsin. He has served as a board member for the Kansas Bankers Association, Shawnee Mission Rotary Club, Overland Park Economic Development Council, the KCADC and the Johnson County Reappraisal Advisory Committee, among others.
Vice President, Commercial Loan Officer, KC Northland
Thompson joined Equity Bank’s commercial lending team in September and is based at Equity’s Northland offices at NW 63rd Terrace.
Thompson has worked in commercial lending for more than 25 years, most recently at UMB Bank as a commercial lender, following her tenure as Commercial Credit Risk and Commercial Credit Administration Manager at Allegacy Federal Credit Union, as well as other banks in the Kansas City market throughout her career as a commercial lender. She is an alumnus of Park University.
Marketing Manager, Kansas City
Easter joined Equity Bank’s marketing team in October as marketing manager. Based in Kansas City, Easter contributes to marketing strategy and manages digital marketing for all 34 Equity Bank locations. She previously worked with Lockton in Kansas City and has spent over 8 years in marketing across the banking, sports, retail and insurance industries. Easter is a native of Albuquerque, N.M. and holds a B.A. and M.B.A. from the University of New Mexico.
Vice President, Special Assets Manager, Kansas City
LaFon joined Equity Bank in September and will oversee Equity Bank’s special assets management throughout its 34 branches. He will be based at Equity’s office at 8880 W. 151st Street in Overland Park. LaFon joins Equity Bank after seven years as asset manager with Midland Loan Services in Kansas City. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri-KC and a native of the Kansas City area.
Vice President, External Financial Reporting Manager, Wichita
Furgason joined Equity Bank’s accounting team in October and will assist in regulatory reporting and budget management for the holding company and the bank. Furgason is a licensed CPA and CGMA and has worked in numerous accounting roles throughout his careers, most recently as CFO of MCDS, Inc. in McPherson and was senior vice president of finance and human resources for 14 years with Farm Credit of Southwest Kansas in Garden City. He is a native of Pratt, Kansas and a graduate of Kansas State, with an M.B.A. from Colorado State University.
Senior Mortgage Loan Originator, Wichita
Leslie Garcia joined Equity Bank’s mortgage lending team in October as senior lending officer, and is based at Equity Bank’s Waterfront location at 1555 North Webb Road. Garcia has more than 18 years of mortgage lending experience, including expertise in Government Loans, having spent the majority of her lending career in Colorado Springs, Colorado, home to Army and Air Force bases, including five years with Academy Mortgage Corporation as senior loan originator.
