Opt In Opt Out

Important Changes in Regulations

If your account was opened before July 1, 2010 we had to receive your Opt In by August 15, 2010 to keep Overdraft Privilege on your debit/ATM card.  If we did not hear from you by August 15, we had to automatically opt your debit/ATM card out of this service.


  • What is Opt In and how does it work?

    If you Opt In, your debit card will be approved up to a certain amount into the negative, to save you the embarrassment of your card being declined.  For example;

    Imagine you are at the grocery store stocking up for the week.  The cart is full to the brim and it is time to check out.  You hand the checker your debit card and she says, “I am sorry your card has been declined, do you have another one you want to try?”  How embarrassing!

    Now imagine the same shopping trip with that full cart and the check out process goes smoothly.  You are happy with your purchase and there was no embarrassment to be experienced.

    What was the difference you might ask?  The customer in the second scenario Opted In when he/she opened their bank account.  Opting in on your account allows Equity Bank to pay items that might draw your account into the negative up to $500.00 giving you peace of mind at the grocery store.  No more worrying about your card being declined because your paycheck goes in at midnight.  No more embarrassment!
